Second Life
A friend recently told me about this site, Second Life, where people create alternate identities for themselves. It seems to be like a game, but not. Wikipedia has an informative article about it (apparently there are 2 million users). Is anyone familiar with it? I thought it might make for an interesting class discussion/assignment, but I haven't looked through the site yet.

I just discovered this site myself, and considered using it in a section on creating digital entitites of one's self. The thing that makes me a little wary of it is that everything seems monetized. You literally have to purchase things like clothes and cars, with real money, and companies are making enormous amounts of money on this site because users get so involved that they're willing to shell out the bucks for a Prada bag or whatever. It kinda gives me the heebiejeebies...I could be totally wrong, however, because I only browsed it briefly.
